How to set up your moodle account

How to set up your moodle account

If you have a Kestrel account, go to Section 2 and use your Kestrel account and NOT your Islander account.

Otherwise, you MUST have an Islander email account in order to set up your moodle account. If you do not have an Islander account yet, set it up by following these instructions:

Section 1

Note: If you do not have your new student ID (not your SSN), go to SAIL and click on My Student ID.

  1. Go to http://newuser.tamucc.edu/
  2. Click on Islander Student Email. You may also set up your Novell account on this page. Enter your student id and your birth date, and click on submit.
  3. Write down your username and password for Islander on a piece of paper. Your Islander email account will be: username@islander.tamucc.edu At this point it would be wise to change your password.

You are now ready to set up your moodle account. To set it up, follow these instructions:

Section 2

  1. Go to http://moodle.tamucc.edu/ If you get a security warning, click on “Continue to this website”.
  2. Click on “login”, which is situated at the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Then click on “send my details via email”.
  4. When prompted for your email address, you MUST enter your Kestrel/Islander email address. No other email address will work. Then click ok.
  5. At this point, the moodle system sends you an email. Go to your Kestrel/Islander email account at http://islander.tamucc.edu or http://kestrel.tamucc.edu and click on “Check your student e-mail via the web”. Enter your username and password for Kestrel/Islander.
  6. Open the email sent to you by the moodle system. Towards the middle of the email, you have a link. Click on the link, which will take you back to moodle. Click on continue.
  7. A new window opens, which prompts you for a username, password, and new password. Do not enter anything yet.
  8. Go back to your Islander email account. The moodle system sent you a second email. Open the second email, where you will find your username and password for moodle.
  9. Go back to moodle. Enter your username and password given to you in the email and enter a new password of your choice twice. Click ok.
