GIS Data Base for Restored Habit on Corpus Christi Bay
This site provides information on the development of an interactive GIS data base for restored habitat in Corpus Christi Bay. In the Corpus Christi area, over three million dollars have been spent/allocated on beach restoration since 2001. This project (still under development) will develop an interactive Geographic Information System (GIS) database to demonstrate the inter-relationships between coastal processes, shoreline change and water quality for application to shoreline and habitat restoration projects in the Corpus Christi area.
The interactive database will be applied to a recently restored beach (August, 2001) located along southern Corpus Christi Bay and adjacent to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The proposed system will provide an accessible archive of monitoring data for University Beach (a CEPRA, Cycle 2 project). The parameters introduced into the database will consist of aerial photographs, sediment data, meteorological information, beach profile (elevation) surveys, alternative imaging (satellite and remote electronic), as well as water quality, wave, current, and modeling data as available.
The database will serve as a tool for officials and resource mangers to:
- interpret which methods of restoration and/or stabilization technology work the best in different coastal environments
- make informed decisions on managing restored habitat along the Texas coast.
