The bulk of our new server order arrived Wed. 7/30. We put the boxes in the entry office in the NRC 3400 suite. We didn't have room in our lab (Electronics lab) because it contained 20-30 19"+ CRT monitors and several computers destined for surplus.
I decided it would be nice to have a record of what happened, so I took some pictures.
James, Ryan and Sara cleaned out the lab, hauling all the monitors, miscellaneous computers and a desk to surplus on Thursday (7/31) morning--no small feat. I think they relocated several cases of SoBe Life Water as well. Good thing Sara bought that heavy-duty dolly.
Once the lab was somewhat free of debris, they picked up the rack itself from shipping and brought it up to the lab. This, by all regards, was the most difficult task of the morning, as navigation of the hallways and freight elevators at the NRC was necessary to get the large rack into the Lab. Once the rack was in place, and the space on the floor, they moved the server shipping boxes into the lab as well.
On Monday (8/4) James and Ryan rolled the rack off the pallet. I took some more pictures.
On Tuesday (8/5) James, Ryan and myself unpacked and installed the servers, UPS, power distribution units and rack fans in the rack.
Between Tuesday (8/5) and Monday (8/11), Ryan and James installed the KVM switch, labeled the servers and cleaned out the electronics lab--no easy task, but, with the help of the label gun (which is labeled) the lab is now in good condition with well-organized shelves, cabinets and drawers and navigable walkways.
On Monday (8/11), The monitor/keyboard combination found on ebay (1U, rack mountable with rails included) arrived.
On Tuesday (8/12), Ryan and Terrence installed the monitor/keyboard tray in the rack.
On Thursday (8/14), James and Ryan installed the polling-specific UPS and switch in the rack. They also ran cables.
