This page provides useful information to new DNR employees.

User accounts

See James Davis or Niall Durham in room 3404 of the Natural Resources Center to get your username and password. Often, your username will be your first initial followed by your last name, but not always (we let you pick).

There are several computer systems that you may need to be aware of:

• meridian.tamucc.edu - handles all DNR user accounts, email, and a few other things
• lighthouse.tamucc.edu - houses DNR's database of environmental information and this wiki
• wip.cbi.tamucc.edu - wip stands for Works In Progress. Most of the software development for DNR happens on this machine. Ideas can be tested without fear of destroying useful data. Once they have been successfully tested on wip, the software can be migrated to lighthouse.tamucc.edu

CBI CA certificate

If you receive certificate errors or you cannot access any CBI/DNR web addresses starting with "https", then you need to install the CBI CA certificate in your web browser.

If you are a new user (with an account) then you definitely need to do this in your web browser(s).

E-mail

You have several options to access your email:

• Secure Shell (SSH) - login to meridian.tamucc.edu via secure shell and run the command "pine" or "mutt"
• Outlook/Eudora - use an e-mail program like Outlook or Eudora to read your email from some other machine. For these programs your IMAP and SMTP server is meridian.tamucc.edu while your return address is user@lighthouse.tamucc.edu (where user is your username)
• Web browser - to use your web browser to read your email, login to Squirrelmail
• Forward to another account - We can forward all your e-mail to another e-mail account (e.g., your gmail account)

Mailing Lists

There are several mailing lists managed by DNR. You can see a list of CBI/DNR mailing lists and short descriptions. Common lists:

• dnr-list - all DNR personnel should subscribe themselves to this list because this is where announcements that pertain to all DNR are made
• cbi-list - all DNR personnel should subscribe to this list as this is where announcements that pertain to all of CBI (of which DNR is a part) are made
• dnr-is - if you work on any of the DNR software, you should subscribe yourself to this mailing list
• dnr-field - if you perform any tasks "out in the field", you should subscribe to this list

Changing your password

In order to change your password you must go to http://meridian.tamucc.edu/administration/passwd.php and enter your existing username and password.
