ET/CS Job goals/skills:

1. Evaluate present choices for DNR data logger system.
   1. Linux OS (any other OSS OSes?)
   2. "Embedded-system" computer hardware
   3. Research/review of present work
   4. Instrumentation
   5. Communications; serial, TCP/IP
   6. Read manuals
   7. Test/troubleshoot hardware

2. Select best option, complete any necessary tasks to develop system to a state where testing can commence.
   1. Software analysis/code review
   2. Knowledge of C, sh, Perl
   3. Programming in a resource-limited environment
   4. Command-line utilities (ssh, tar, grep, mount, etc.)
   5. Cable-making
   6. Debugging, debugging, debugging!
   7. Source code revision tools (subversion)
   8. General networking knowledge

3. Monitor system throughout testing to determine necessary improvements and performance guidelines for deployment.
   1. Q/C
   2. Write documentation, develop processes and requirements
   3. Go out into the field

4. Assist in deployment of system and continue to develop system reliability and capabilities. Experiment!
   1. Train others
   2. Go out into the field
   3. Research new hardware/software
   4. Play with toys/think of new applications
   5. Desire to further capabilities of DNR
   6. Purchase recommendations/budget planning
