GIS Database for Restored Habitat Along the Texas Coast

This website provides a coupled system for describing restored shore and habitat sites along the Texas coast. The focus is on Coastal Erosion Planning and Response Act (CEPRA) restored beach projects. The (CHRGIS Interactive Maps) tool was developed on a ArcGIS^? Server platform that allows the user to visualize changes occurring at a beach over time while the Shore and Habitat Educational Resource provides information to allow the user to better understand the inter-relationships between coastal processes and shoreline change.

University Beach (restored August 2001) was selected as the prototype for website and Arc IMS development. CHRGIS provides visualization of an accessible archive of monitoring data for University Beach (a CEPRA, Cycle 1 project).

The database will serve as a tool for officials and resource managers to:
* Interpret methods of restoration and/or stabilization that work best in different coastal environments.
* Make informed decisions on managing restored habitat along the Texas coast.

The coupled system will provide educators, students, and the general public with:
* An interactive tool to investigate spatial and temporal change.
* An educational resource to find out more about shore and habitat restoration and coastal erosion.

Project partners include the Texas General Land Office (TGLO) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through a TGLO administered Texas Coastal Management Program grant (cycle 8).
