Corpus Christi Beach:

This popular downtown beach must be renourished (new sand mechanically placed on the beach) to maintain an adequate beach width for recreation and protection of the backshore infrastructure. North Shore, or Corpus Christi Beach, is a very busy tourists area during the summer season because of the close proximity to other visitors attractions such as the downtown marina, the Texas State Aquarium, and numerous gifts shops and hotels.

At Corpus Christi Beach, the shoreline does not accrete (gain) sand naturally becuase no new sand is entering the Corpus Christi Bay due to the dams that limit river source sand, and the hardening (building of structures) of shorelines because this limits erosion of material into the bay. Sand eroded from the beach during storms is carried offshore by currents and waves and is deposited in the deeper waters of the bay or ship channel.
